Celebrating at our place
28 October 2007
Adult Learners' Week celebrates adult learners and educators.

Learning both ways
The 'learning in our place' theme highlighted the work of ESOL Home Tutors. Individualised support is provided to learners in their own homes by volunteers - and the learning goes both ways. In Auckland, on the 8th of September, ESOL Home Tutors' Ethnic Advisory Group member Mar Mar Kyi Maung received an Exceptional Achievement Award. The award was given by ESOL Home Tutors in recognition of her extraordinary personal learning achievements since arriving in New Zealand in 2000. Hon. David Cunliffe, Minister of Immigration joined the occasion for afternoon tea to say a few words in praise of Mar Mar's accomplishments. For more on Mar Mar's, story see the separate news release, 'Learner and volunteer honoured with national award'.
Dynamic celebrations were organised by the 22 centres throughout New Zealand. Centres also participated in other regional and national events organised by the Adult and Community Education sector.
